Uplift Heights senior Alejandro Ruiz was surprised to find out he had been accepted to the University of North Texas at Dallas while on a school field trip to tour the school.
“I feel proud of myself, I never thought I would have gotten accepted,” said Alejandro. “I had set my mind that I was going to go to college, and now I’m going.”
Alejandro and his classmates from Uplift Heights visited UNTD as part of a field trip to help expose scholars to the campus.
“We leveraged our partnership with UNTD to tour the campus and provide our scholars with the opportunity to experience a college atmosphere firsthand,” said Francisco Estrada, Road to College and Career Counselor at Uplift Heights. “Due to the pandemic, our scholars haven’t been able to visit campuses as frequently as we would have liked and so it was great for them to get up close and personal with the sights, sounds, and even smells of being on a college campus.”
Now that he’s been accepted, Alejandro is very grateful for the support he received from RTCC.
“I want to thank everyone at Uplift Heights for all their help throughout the college application process,” said Alejandro.
