Another complete school year is another chance we get to celebrate the achievements of our accomplished Uplift Senior Class of 2020. Under incredibly difficult circumstances, 839 Uplift seniors had to quickly adapt to online learning in the spring. The Uplift community is incredibly impressed by our seniors’ determination to make their last moments at Uplift meaningful, all the while grappling with an unprecedented, virtual environment.
We only spend a quarter of our years attending school, which means moments such as graduation from Uplift should not be taken for granted. Our scholars garnered over 4,100 acceptances to 605 colleges, including 39 Ivy League and top 100 schools.
Success, however, means more than college acceptance for our seniors. 80% of Uplift graduates will be the first in their family to attend college, and many eclipsed their academic goals while supporting their families at home. Additionally, our graduates were awarded an astounding $102 million in scholarships and grants.
A long-standing tradition at Uplift has been our College Signing Day event, where our seniors get to publicly announce their post-graduation plans. This year the event was held virtually and rebranded as Senior Decision Day. The change was made to support all our scholars’ decisions after high school graduation from attending college, starting a career, or joining the armed forces. While we may not have been able to enjoy the roar of the crowds, the event was still filled with moments of joy, hope, laughter, and tears.
Growing up, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to attend college and I am grateful to have found an environment where that was possible. Though I wanted to be surrounded by my friends and family, I was overfilled with joy because I was being celebrated. I felt the excitement from my friends and family when I announced the college, I’d be attending this fall said, Uplift Williams Senior Rosa Rojas.
We all look back on the years we spent with our seniors at Uplift with proud hearts and tear-filled eyes but know that this is not goodbye. Uplift will continue to be a part of graduates’ lives for years to come as they venture with unprecedented support and resources as they discover their futures.
Congratulations Uplift Class of 2020! We will always be an Uplift family.
