With white hardhats on and specially decorated Uplift Williams shovels in hand, members of the Uplift Williams community officially broke ground last week on the construction of a brand new gym.
Surrounded by scholars, parents, teachers and community members, the ceremony marked the beginning of a special addition to the Uplift Williams campus. A performance from the Uplift Williams primary cheerleaders as well as the Uplift Williams band gave everyone a taste of the many ways scholars will use the new gym.
Long time Uplift Williams parent, Maricruz Loera, shared the parent perspective on what this gym means for her and her scholar.
“The new gym addition has been a huge blessing waiting to happen for the entire Uplift Williams community; we are thrilled and excited that finally a long awaited dream is coming true! But more so excited to continue working together to make a difference in our children’s lives.” she said.
Scheduled to open for the 2015-16 school year, the gym will give scholars a place to practice healthy habits, hold after school events and extracurricular activities.
Various members of the Uplift Williams community were in attendance to help kick off construction including Todd and Abby Williams from The Williams Family Foundation, Mary Louise Ludt, HKS Architects, PMSI Inc., Rosemary Perlmeter, Alex Hales and board members Angie Dickson, Randy Ray and Tony Dona.
