While most people dug around for their stretchy pants in preparation for all of the holiday food that this season brings, a very dedicated group of volunteers at Uplift Hampton Preparatory are using their time to giving back to the community. The Men of Hampton, a group of fathers and male figures, have been hosting a number of events in the spirit of giving.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving, the Men of Hampton spent their day handing out essential meal items for a Thanksgiving dinner to families. By the end of the day 30 turkeys had been given out, as well as delicious sides such as stuffing, green beans and mashed potatoes to make the meal whole.
This month, the Men of Hampton are doing everything in their power to spread the holiday cheer. They have been working very hard to raise toys for their annual toy drive that runs until December 16th.. These toys will be given out to children in the community. They are also hard at work, preparing their annual Breakfast with Santa event on December 21st. Beginning with a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, families will have the opportunity to bond with their scholars. After breakfast, families will be able to walk around and read holiday books to scholars while sipping on hot chocolate, take pictures with Santa and decorate crafts. All scholars and families will go home with full bellies, great memories and the opportunity to win a brand new bike. Thanks to a very kind donation, 10 girls and boys bikes will be raffled off at the event.
